Running a successful business means regularly meeting challenges and overcoming obstacles. Jim’s bookkeeper Sho Dan is no stranger to challenges – through hard work and perseverance, she has established her own business and raised a family in her adopted homeland. Proficient in both English and Chinese, Sho offers a bilingual bookkeeping service.
Since moving to Australia with her husband, Sho has worked for a Sydney-based tax agent preparing individual tax returns, where she discovered she had a natural aptitude for number crunching. Sho then went on to excel in her studies for an accounting diploma – no mean feat considering she had to overcome the language barrier in the process.
For the next two years, Sho devoted her time to raising her children. She credits the time as further training, teaching her to be well organised and patient. Today, Sho enjoys the flexibility of running her own business and reaping the rewards of her own hard work.
Acknowledging the different needs of her clients, Sho customises her service to accommodate each client’s time schedule and individual bookkeeping requirements. She also adds extra value by offering graphs and charts to help clients gain a better understanding of their business in relation to its cash flow, cost, profit, and financial position, and identifying problem areas then contributing solutions.
Sho takes great pride in her work and looks forward to helping others achieve their business goals. She says, "My dream is that one day, when someone asks my kids what their mother does, they will proudly reply, 'My mother is a good bookkeeper. She helps people.'"
